SLAP’D stands for Surviving Life After a Parent Dies. Our name represents the feeling that many teens experience after losing a parent; the shock and pain that accompanies a death can often feel like a slap in the face. The apostrophe is meant to create pause, to give us all a moment to acknowledge what we might be feeling: shock, denial, anger, pain, guilt, depression, loneliness, healing, and acceptance.
