You’re probably wondering, Is it okay if I use SLAP’D if I’ve lost my grandparent, sibling, aunt uncle, friend, etc.? While it is true SLAP’D was created for teens who have lost a parent, it is undeniable that the intense feeling of grief is the same, as is the need for support and community.

So we as the SLAP’D family to encourage you to use SLAP’D as a space to connect with others and to share your thoughts. We hope that you find the resources on our site helpful and relevant to your situation, bearing in mind that it is aimed towards parent loss. Please feel free to create a profile and tribute page, as well as participate in the forum discussions.

Many of the articles on our page can be relevant and interesting to teens that have not lost a parent. The Coping section in particular contains advice that can be used in many types of stressful situations. Other articles include Birthdays and Anniversaries in The First Year section, Triggers in the Communication section, and How do I tell someone that I want to talk? in the Ask an Expert section.

In addition to these articles, many of the books listed on our resources page are not specific to the death of a parent, but address loss more generally. A few titles that may be helpful include: My Anxious Mind: A Teen’s Guide to Managing Anxiety and Panic, I Wasn’t Ready to Say Goodbye, and The Grieving Teen.

We wish we could provide you with more resources, and hope to do so in the near future! At this point, we are working hard to get SLAP’D off the ground and running, so that teens have a space to connect and find support.
